Juan Luis Torres / Artistic Director Ballet Folklorico de Sacramento / Folklorico Instructor

Was born in Mexico City in 1976, at age twelve he began dancing folklorico at a cultural center where he received a grant to develop his dance technique and conduct research on the origins of Mexico?s dance (folklorico & indigenous). At 14 he joined the national folk dance company where he developed his experience, this was a time in his life which had a great impact, guiding his passion for dance, and where he forms his choice of a career in dance. From there begins his preparation to become a professional dancer. He has been in many different groups and companies as a dancer. Since the age of 17 he entered the Ballet Folklorico de Mexico (BFM) Amalia Hernandez and directed by Amalia herself. He prepared and managed to become the first dancer to run a solo dancer with BFM, He has performed in more than 3,000 presentations throughout 30 countries in his time with BFM. At 22 he prepared himself as a choreographer with the Institute for Culture and Arts, studying how to create Mexican holiday themed festivals and productions. With BFM he became a teacher (Maestro) for beginner BFM company members. In 2003 he begins his studies advertising imagery. His work continues in preparation of groups or companies and major productions. As of July 2015 he is the new Artistic Director of Ballet Folklorico de Sacramento (BFS).

Yesenia Baez

Yesenia Baez / Folklorico Instructor

Born in Guamuchil, Sinaloa in 1986. At the age of 10 I started as part of Macuilxochitl Ballet Folklorico de Sinaloa Guamuchil. A short time after belonging to this company we traveled on tour to the city of Los Angeles, CA for different performances. I have also participated in various festivals in several states of the Mexican Republic in Aguascalientes, Veracruz, Hidalgo, Guanajuato, Chihuahua City, Queretaro, Durango, Sonora, San Luis Potosi, Zacatecas and Sinaloa state. I spent three consecutive years participating in the International Carnival of Mazatlán, also participating in the opening of the Caribbean Series in this same city. In the years 2004,2005 and 2006 I had the opportunity to travel to Europe to international festivals in Italy, France twice, London, Belgium, Hollande.Take classes in classical ballet, jazz (modern dance), Flamenco for two years at the dance school of Sinaloa. In 2007 I started to work at the academy of fine arts Guamuchil, Sinaloa little over 7 years as a teacher of folklore, modern dance, classical ballet and international dances (Tahitian, Hawaiian, arabe, batucadas) creating two to three festivals a year. As of 2015 am a folklorico instructor at IMBA.

abelardo

Abelardo Cisneros / Classical Ballet Instructor and Artistic Director

Abelardo is native of Puebla, Mexico. He began dancing Folklorico in elementary school, where it formed into a passion for dance, which inspired him to continue his studies in Classical Ballet at the Taller de Danza Clasica UAP in Mexico. At the age of 18 Abelardo continued his Classical Ballet studies as a scholarship student at the Stanley Holden Dance Center in Los Angeles, CA, The David Hoard Dance Center in NYC among others. His professional career includes Mondern, Contemporary, and Ballet with such Companes as: Saint Louis Ballet, Lula Washington Dance Theatre, in Los Angeles, CA, FMDT in Los Angeles, CA, Sacramento Ballet, Sacramento, CA where he was a resident artist until 2004, amongst others. He has also trained as a Pilate instructor for Mat and Reformer.

Miguel Robertson / Senior Music Instructor at IMBA Center

Born in Bogota, Colombia he began piano lessons at the age of 9. When he was 15 he began studying violin and electric guitar. When he moved to the United States he taught himself drums and cello. He also began his bachelor?s degree on Music Theory and Composition and graduated on spring 2014 from Sacramento State University on the Dean?s Honor List. He has given private piano lessons for the last 4 years, and is a current music teacher at the Dance and Music school IMBA.

Luis Lugo

Luis Lugo / Voice and Instrument Instructor

Luis is majoring in Music Education at Sac State with an applied focus in voice. For the last 10 years, he has taught private music lessons and loves every moment. He has taught multiple instruments such as piano, guitar, voice, cello, and violin. Mr. Lugo has also been teaches in the String Project program at Sac State for 3 years, and is still learning great teaching techniques from the master teachers, Timothy Stanley and Judy Bossuat-Gallic. Along with enjoying teaching, Luis has also had tons of experience singing in choirs, operas, and with solos. His most enjoyable performance was in New York, NY, performing over Memorial Day weekend at Carnegie Hall.

Gustavo Diaz / Music Director

I have been playing classical upright bass for 10 years and in that time I have picked up a few other instruments such as guitar, ukulele, and cello. I am currently enrolled at Sacramento City College pursuing a degree in musical theory and education. My dream is to continue my education and pursuit for music for many years to come and hope that I can share my passion for music with each of my students.
